A hint of things to come for the Twilight Singers?

It’s the moment I’ve been waiting for since I heard Greg Dulli, the former frontman for The Afghan Whigs, planned to release a new Twilight Singers album in 2010.

When the Twilight Singers posted the skyline photograph on their Facebook page about four hours ago, I knew it had to be the new album cover. I mean, it’s a skyline at twilight. And the last album cover was very similar.

Either this is a red herring intended to be the biggest tease in the world, or it’s Dulli’s way of letting the fans know he’s serious about putting out the new album.

And let’s face it, for a guy who’s been more prolific in song output since the Afghan Whigs disbanded in 2001, his commitment to making new music on a deadline – his deadline – hasn’t faltered yet.

He’s released a new Twilight Singers album every year from 2003 until 2006, as well as an album under the name Gutter Twins with Screaming Trees frontman Mark Lanegan in 2008.

If the quality of the Gutter Twins’ “Saturnalia” and the Twilight Singers’ 2006 release, “Powder Burns,” are any indication of the direction Dulli’s heading, then we’re in for a real treat with the next album.

Greg, your hint of things to come has been Dulli noted.

  1. You've heard Twilight Singers' cover of "When Doves Cry" with Appolonia, right? If so, don't act like I never told ya.
